Jackson Hole
Jackson Hole is a large valley area, more than just the town of Jackson. While you're visiting, we hope you get to travel to various places within the Hole. Here is a small map that will hopefully help visualize the different towns, villages, and neighborhoods in the area. (Teton Village is starred because a Village association publishes the map. We have our hotel blocks in Teton Village, and that's where Rosie's parents live as well.)


Air travel directly to Jackson Hole
There is an airport in Jackson Hole (the only one inside of a U.S. National Park!) If you're staying in the town of Jackson or in Teton Village, you do not need to rent a car. You can:

1) Take a taxi, starting at $35 to the town of Jackson or $60 to Teton Village. Some cab companies are

2) Ride a shared shuttle (best to reserve in advance), which costs $16 to the town of Jackson ($31 round trip) or $29 to Teton Village ($50 round trip), plus 6% sales tax on any of these prices. http://www.jacksonholealltrans.com/airportshuttle.html

3) If you're headed to Teton Village and looking for a slower, but less expensive, route: combine an airport shuttle ride to town with a $3 ride on the START (Southern Teton Area Rapid Transit) public bus to Teton Village. Air travel to the next closest airports
The next nearest airports are in Idaho Falls (just under 2 hours away by car from Jackson) and in Salt Lake City (just under 5 hours away). Sometimes it is less expensive to fly to these airports, but not always. There are shuttle services that can transport you from either of these airports to the Jackson Area.

Mountain States Express (run by AllTrans) runs a shuttle between SLC and Jackson for $70 each way. (I don't know if sales tax or other reservation fees will apply.) See http://www.mountainstatesexpress.com/index.html

Salt Lake Express has a shuttle between SLC and Jackson for $71.50 each way and between Idaho Falls and Jackson for $44 each way. (Again, I don't know if sales tax or other reservation fees will apply.) See https://secure.bluedepot.com/trailways/index.cfm

Travel within the Jackson Hole area
It is possible to see the area and Grand Teton National Park without a car! As mentioned above, there is a START (Southern Teton Area Rapid Transit) bus route that connects Teton Village and the town of Jackson for $3 a ride. There are free START bus routes to get around within the town of Jackson. START bus info at http://www.startbus.com/ Some summer route info is not posted yet.

To see Grand Teton Yellowstone Park, you can pay $14 for a one day park shuttle pass on AllTrans. You will still need a $12 weekly pass to enter the pass (it's $25 for a car weekly pass.) Getting farther north to Yellowstone without a car might be a bit trickier and involve going by bus through Idaho Falls to West Yellowstone, MT. Once in Yellowstone, there is a park shuttle. Jackson Hole offers everything from rustic, backcountry camping to the Four Seasons, and pretty much everything in between.

The Hostel offers basic private rooms, at a nightly rate of $99, with either a king-sized bed or 4 twin beds in the form of 2 twins/1 bunk bed. The are holding a block of rooms for us (for August 8-12) until about a month before the wedding. Info at http://www.thehostel.us/id11.html.

Incidentally, Rosie's parents lived in one of these rooms for a winter when her dad was the ski area doctor in the early '70s. He used another room (sans bed!) for his clinic. The rooms have even been renovated since then!

The Hostel has a common room in its basement with games, ping pong, puzzles, and a self-service ski waxing room (probably not useful in the summer unless you're going to ski the Grand Teton.)

2) The Inn at Jackson Hole
The Inn at Jackson Hole has more traditional hotel rooms and suites. And a pool! No ski waxing room or communal puzzle in progress. Your call on which is more your style/budget.

The Inn is not holding rooms, however it is offering a 20% discount on rack rates for the dates of August 8-12, as long as space is available.
